Foundry Dock Park

Cold Spring, NY | 2000-2006

Foundry Dock Park is part of a larger eighty-seven acre parcel located in Cold Spring, New York known as the West Point Foundry Preserve and currently owned by The Scenic Hudson Land Trust. The preserve, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was home to the West Point Foundry. The Foundry was one of the most innovative in the nation and manufactured the Parrott Gun for the Union Army, which played a significant role in the outcome of the Civil War.

Once the site of a bustling 600’ foot dock that received raw materials and shipped finished products, the current park now offers repose and recreation. Foundry Dock Park, a former brownfield site and one of the few public access points to the Hudson River, has been remediated, reclaimed, and restored to better serve the public. Circulation has been clarified to separate pedestrians from boat/trailer traffic, a permeable paver parking area was added, two viewing platforms were built from sustainably harvested wood, the eroding shoreline has been stabilized, and extensive native planting installed to increase biodiversity and habitat. The former foreboding overgrown industrial site now serves as a gateway to the Village of Cold Spring and the Hudson River.
